Located in the famous seaside resort of Salthill Galway Golf Club offers the discerning visitor a Championship Standard 18 hole Parkland Course with spectacular views over Galway Bay, the Burren and Aran Islands. This fine test of golf is 5,974 metres long and plays to a par of 70 with a standard scratch of 72 off the back tees. Access to the first four holes which run alongside Galway Bay is via an underground pedestrian tunnel. Castlerea Golf Club was founded on 9th September 1905. The course was originally located on the Ballymoe Road at Harristown. It moved to its present location at Clonalis in 1907. Today, the club continues to develop the course and grounds, with additional lands purchased as recently as 2007. This new development is in close proximity to the famous Clonalis House, the historic seat of the O’Conor Don family.

As a well-known and popular golfing destination Castlebar has been fortunate to host several national championships including the 2004 Irish Boys Amateur Close Championship which was won by Rory McIlroy. In recent years the club was honored to host US President Joe Biden, his brother Jim who played alongside the Irish Prime Minister Mr. Enda Kenny.

The members and committees have continued to improve the length, layout and conditioning of their course over the years and have hosted many GUI events including the Connacht Junior Cup provincial qualifiers and the Connacht Cups and Shields Finals. The Connacht Branch’s Championship Committee voted the golf course the ‘Best presented course in Connacht of 2011’ and presented an award to Captain Pat Hynes
